Cerealto has completed the purchase of the Pastificio Mediterranea, its pasta factory located in Silvano D’Orba (Alessandria), 30 kilometres from Genoa in Italy, now that the Concordato de Alessandria has given its approval for the deal which was submitted to public tender.
Cerealto has also made a commitment to retain the 63 co-workers (representing 100% of the staff there), as well as maintaining their working conditions and honouring their length of service. The agreement also includes the purchase of machinery and production lines.
Furthermore, in line with its sustainability policy, Cerealto favours using local suppliers, which currently stand at 100%.
With a family tradition of more than 100 years, Pastificio Mediterranea represents the company’s commitment to the ‘Made in Italy’ business. Approximately 70 types of pasta are manufactured in the factory, including organic and wholemeal, and all of them are made from different varieties of 100% Italian semolina, as well as more innovative types of pasta with ingredients such as kamut, chickpeas and spelt, among others.
Cerealto will continue manufacturing its clients’ brands, and will continue distributing its own brands Pastificio Mediterranea and Moccagatta (www.moccagattapasta.com). Currently, Cerealto supplies ‘Made in Italy’ pasta to its customers mainly in Italy, Austria, France, the United States, Mexico, Chile, and other countries in Africa and Asia.
This event fits in with Cerealto’s strategy of international expansion in southern Europe, which was supported by the recent purchases of the bread factory in Antequeta (Málaga, Spain), the pastries factory in Briviesca (Burgos, Spain) and the biscuits factory in Mem Martins (Sintra, Portugal).
